Did you know that it’s illegal to teach yoga in an Alabama public school? It’s true – but lawmakers are considering lifting the decades-old ban.

Back in 1993, when the state Board of Education banned yoga, meditation, and hypnosis after being pressed by conservative groups. Now a state lawmaker is introducing a bill that would reverse the ban.

However, while the bill would allow for the teaching of yoga poses and exercises, chanting, mantras, and the phrase “namaste” would still be outlawed.
