In a surprising move, Joe Biden has unceremoniously dumped his campaign manager in an apparent shift of focus from the Democratic primaries to the presidential election.

In an announcement made Thursday, Biden revealed he’s given Greg Schultz the ax and hired Jen O’Malley Dillon to run his campaign from this point forward. Dillon, a veteran campaigner, led Barack Obama’s 2008 and 2012 runs for the Oval Office and most recently headed Texas Representative Beto O’Rourke’s presidential campaign.

The move comes after Biden secured a sizeable lead over opponent Bernie Sanders in several states, narrowing the Vermont senator’s chances of winning the Democratic nomination. Biden says Dillon will direct her attention toward “organizational planning for the general election and continuing to bolster the campaign’s external outreach.”
