WWE Still Planning ‘Wrestlemania 36’ in Tampa Bay

As other sports postpone entire seasons, the WWE remains dead set on moving forward with Wrestlemania 36 — although officials with the organization are now considering “contingency plans” in case the government shuts down the event.

“While we remain committed to hosting WrestleMania at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday, April 5, we are putting contingency plans in place in the event that it is cancelled by government officials,” a statement issued Thursday reads. “The health and safety of our fans, performers and employees are our top priorities and we are monitoring the situation closely with our partners and government officials in Tampa Bay.”

Meanwhile, WWE officials have caved on the upcoming episode of “Friday Night Smackdown,” which was originally scheduled to be staged at Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit. Citing coronavirus concerns, WWE officials have moved it to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, where wrestlers will compete without a live audience.
