A day after Tesla’s California factory was busted for continuing production in spite of the governor’s shutdown orders, the auto manufacturer has announced plans to temporarily close the facility.

Making the announcement Thursday, Tesla officials said they’ll cease operations in Fremont at the close of business on Monday. The announcement caused an immediate drop in Tesla shares.

The decision came after witnesses reported seeing thousands of employees reporting for work on Wednesday, in spite of Governor Gavin Newsom’s “shelter in place” orders that called for the closure of all but “essential” businesses. The Fremont factory is Tesla’s only U.S. facility in which it manufactures vehicles.
