3 Reasons Why Up to 1 Million Black Families May Not Get a Stimulus Check

Many Americans are hoping to get a government stimulus check but there are a few reasons why that may not happen for up to a million black families.

According to Randy Hughes, founder of Counting Pennies LLC, a Black-owned nationwide accounting and tax firm, those hoping to get the promised $1,200 as an individual or the $2,500 as a family, may be left out if they don’t have a bank account.

The stimulus check is to be directly deposited and over 10 million Americans don’t have a checking account. Many black families didn’t file 2018 or 2019 taxes and Hughes says the amount of the stimulus is based on your current tax return.

If you’ve moved you may not get a stimulus check because the IRS doesn’t have an updated address to mail it to. Those without a checking account could still get a check, but if the mailing address is wrong that check could be delivered to a wrong address.
