To prevent the further spread of the coronavirus in her state, Michigan’s governor enacted a Stay Home, Stay Safe order, announcing, “I know it’s not easy, but the price of losing loved ones is what’s at stake.”

The move set off protests around the capital, with many complaining about the economic impact of having businesses closed.

Expressing solidarity with those who are suffering, Gretchen Whitmer imposed a 10-percent pay cut on herself and 5-percent for staffers.

Michigan’s lockdown is set to end on April 30. Whitmer says she will decide whether that will change during the next few days.
