While other states are gearing up to reopen, California is closing down all beaches and state parks over coronavirus concerns.

Governor Gavin Newsom made his decision after huge crowds flocked to beaches in Orange and Ventura counties, which reopened the beaches last weekend.

Earlier this week, Newsom admonished beachgoers for violating the stay-at-home order, warning “this virus doesn’t take weekends off”.

Despite being the most populous state in the U.S., California has fewer than 50,000 reported coronavirus cases and one of the lowest per capita death rates.
