If the world is going to build up herd immunity against COVID-19, then most of us will need to receive a vaccine.
The good news is that infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci says one could be ready by January. The bad news, however, is there are many of us who won’t be lining up for that shot.
Some studies say that between one fifth and two fifths of Americans hold anti-vaxxer views, which could thwart reaching the 50% to 70% compliance rate necessary to hold the disease back from spreading further.
Researchers from the University of Minnesota and Oklahoma State University surveyed a small sample of Americans on April 15th and found that 23% gave a hard no to receiving a coronavirus inoculation, while 62% of those who are skeptical of vaccines admitted they’d take a pass as well.
