A nurse has died – 14 days after rushing, mostly unprotected, to treat a COVID-19 patient at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center.

The patient had stopped breathing. Celia Marcos was only wearing a thin surgical mask and her co-workers say putting on an N95 mask would have taken valuable time.

Still, the 61-year-old performed chest compressions that she knew would send contagion into the air.

The L.A. Times reports there are two versions of this story. One depicting Marcos as selfless and another showing how unprepared her hospital was. Marcos wasn’t provided with an N95 mask at the beginning of her shift amid supply shortages.
