A 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck near the Nevada-California border early Friday morning, damaging highways and awakening thousands of sleeping residents.

The quake struck just after 4am and could be felt as far away as Utah and the Bay Area. It was followed by multiple aftershocks, some as powerful as 5.4 magnitude.

Were aliens to blame? Many were quick to point out that the quake struck near the infamous Area 51.
