According to Johns Hopkins University’s COVID-19 tracker, China still reports just over 84,000 cases.

However, that number may be higher 640,000, according to leaked data from China’s military-run university.

ForeignPolicy.com reports the National University of Defense Technology database contains 640,000 entries of various locations – supermarkets, restaurants and schools – from more than 230 different cities, along with the number of “confirmed” cases from each location. The last entry was in late April.

FP cautions that, while comprehensive, the database is incomplete and may not be enough to contradict China’s officially reported figures.
