NY Barber who Refused to Close Shop Tests Positive for COVID-19

A New York barber who continued to cut hair in spite of the state’s shutdown order has tested positive for COVID-19.

That’s not only bad news for the barber, but also everyone who got haircuts over the past few weeks, says Dr. Carol Smith, commissioner of the Ulster County Department of Health. Smith is advising his customers to get tests as soon as possible. “As much as we would all like to go out and get a professional haircut, this kind of direct contact has the potential to dramatically spread this virus throughout our community and beyond,” Smith says.

New York’s nonessential businesses, which have been closed since March 22nd, will be allowed to begin a “phased” reopening on Friday.
