The New York Stock Exchange has been scheduled to reopen on May 26th — but only to traders who don’t use public transportation to get there.
The reopening, revealed Thursday by NYSE President Stacey Cunningham, will come just more than two months after Wall Street shut down on March 23rd. “We opted to close our floor temporarily in the early days of the pandemic to help slow the spread of disease,” Cunningham says. “Two months later, we’ve learned a lot and are in a position to reopen the floor with vital new safety measures, as we begin working together to restart the U.S. economy.”
Among the new safety measures is a mandate that forbids traders to use public transportation to reduce the risk of catching and spreading the coronavirus, Cunningham says. He says the trading floor will initially be open to a limited number of smaller firms, while larger traders will be able to participate electronically.”
