Two days after condemning U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for accusing China of hiding information about the Coronavirus outbreak, China’s ambassador to Israel, Du Wei, was found dead in his apartment in Tel Aviv Sunday. Wei was appointed envoy in February during the pandemic and had previously served as China’s ambassador to the Ukraine.

Days before his passing at 58, Wei told newspaper Haaretz that his goal was to strengthen ties between Israel and China, saying China “is a law-abiding responsible country that should be trusted.”

Israel police are investigating the death. No cause of death has been given.
