Downtown L.A. Explosion Injures Multiple Firefighters

A blast inside a downtown Los Angeles building storing smoking and vaping products brought hundreds of firefighters to the scene Saturday evening. Eleven firefighters were reported injured from the blast, according to the L.A. Fire Department.

Three of the firefighters are in ICU and two are on ventilators. A Fire Department spokesman said Sunday that all of the firefighters were in stable condition.

Capt. Erik Scott told The New York Times that a ball of flame erupted, growing 30 feet high and 30 feet wide. 230 firefighters responded after a mayday alert was issued and managed to contain the blaze in under three hours. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
