Gov. Cuomo Expects Increase In Coronavirus Cases As Reopening Begins

About half of New York State is starting to reopen from the coronavirus lockdowns, but it won’t be business as usual at the beginning.

Five of the state’s ten regions have met the seven criteria necessary to remove the restrictions, which includes a reduced infection and hospitalization rate plus a higher testing rate.

However, this doesn’t mean these areas are in the clear. Speaking Saturday, Governor Andrew Cuomo admitted, “You’re going to see an increase in the numbers, but you don’t want to see a spike.”

New York City lags behind in the number of available ICU beds, leaving the Big Apple still shut potentially until May 28.
