Police in Charlotte, North Carolina have a bona fide mystery on their hands after several pig heads were found on the retaining wall of Interstate 277.

Responding to calls from grossed-out motorists, officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department on Monday discovered the severed heads, which were placed at regular intervals along the highway’s barrier, according to a police report. Investigators have not revealed how many pig heads were found.

Although police say they put in an order to have the pig melons removed, WCNC News reports at least one of the heads remained as of 6:30 p.m. EST Tuesday.
