J.C. Penney is closing another 152 stores and cutting 1,000 jobs as the beleaguered retail chain climbs out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The job cuts will mostly affect corporate, international, and field management roles.

The once-mighty department store chain was already struggling before the coronavirus pandemic decimated the retail industry.

About 600 J.C. Penney locations will remain once the company’s two-year reorganization is complete.
