A panel has recommended parole for a follower of one of the most infamous killers in history.

Leslie Van Houten, who’s been in prison for nearly five decades for her role in twp murders orchestrated by Charles Manson, received a thumbs up from a California parole board on Thursday. However, it has to be approved by Governor Gavin Newsom, who vetoed a previous recommendation, saying he felt the 70-year-old still posed a threat to the community. Newsom’s precessor, Governor Jerry Brown, rejected two previous parole recommendations.

Van Houten was sentenced to life in prison for her role in the 1969 murders of Los Angeles grocer Leno LeBianca and his wife, Rosemary. She was 19 years old at the time.
