The shelter will now house families when it opens on November first, the city of Chicago originally said the building being leased in the 500 block of North Western Avenue would house up to 200 single men. Block Club Chicago reports neighbors argued the building was to close to several schools and would be a better fit for families. The Ukrainian village shelter will be the first in the West Town area. Almost 2500 are still living at police stations and are awaiting housing. A base camp is expected to open in Brighton Park which can hold up to 2000 asylum seekers.
