The Chicago Board of Elections announcing it plans to appeal a judges ruling that invalidated the Bring Chicago Home question on the March ballot. The board is still encouraging residents to vote on the question while the legal wrangling continues. The votes that have been cast are sequestered for now. The decision by the Chicago Board of Elections comes a day after the city of Chicago appealed the decision. Since election day is March 19th the court battle could continue after the election. The City Council needs Chicago residents to approve the proposal in order for alderman to vote to increase the so called mansion tax to address homelessness in the city. A group in the real estate industry sued to block the referendum arguing it violates state law by having both a tax cut and a tax hike in the same question.
