Incoming Republican Chairperson Kathy Salvi said the road to a red Illinois is unity in the party. Salvi made her remarks Wednesday morning during the Illinois Delegation breakfast on Day 3 at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
While optimistic, Salvi admits there’s going to be a lot of work ahead. “We haven’t had a statewide win since 2014, but you all know that already…I think it’s time.” She pledged to rebuild the party with support. “There is not one candidate that I will abandon with my energy and commitment.” Salvi, is the former senate candidate who won the Republican primary but lost to Tammy Duckworth in 2022. She believes her losses give her some insight. “You know, you learn a lot through a loss. I think I’ll be able to apply all those lessons I’ve learned to winning elections in the future.”
Salvi, who will officially become the face of the Illinois GOP on Friday, has the full support of outgoing National Chairman Richard Porter, who will be replaced by Dean White, who serves the Illinois 8th Congressional District. When asked what’s next for him, Porter replied “I don’t know but we have a great new team running the Illinois Republican party. I think we are in good shape to grow and be a stronger party.”
