New details about downstate sheriff’s deputy who shot Sonya Massey in her home

The downstate Sangamon County deputy who fatally shot Sonya Massey in her home while responding to her 911 call was discharged from the U.S. Army for “serious misconduct,” after less than two years of service, and held six different police jobs in the last four years.

Sean Grayson was a 91B Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic in the Regular Army from 2014 to 2016. He had no deployments and left the Army in the rank of private first class, according to an Army spokesman.

Grayson, who did not turn on his body camera until after shooting Massey at her Springfield home on July 6th, was fired from the force. He’s been indicted on three counts of First Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery charges for the July 6th shooting. He has pleaded not guilty.
