The alternative and punk store, The Alley, is up for sale

Block Club Chicago is reporting that owner Mark Thomas is looking to sell the iconic store, which was a staple at Clark and Belmont for decades. The store relocated to Avondale and continued to sell counterculture clothing, jewelry and paraphernalia.

Thomas said his wife is urging him to retire due to health issues, and pass the business on to the next generation. He has indicated he may retain the “The Alley” trademark and franchise new business ventures in the future.

The Alley has been a Chicago mainstay for over 45 years at once having over 200 employees at it’s peak.
