(CHICAGO) With less than two weeks to go in the regular session of the General Assembly, Governor Rauner is willing to “be supportive” of a city-owned Chicago casino if it’s part of a grand bargain.
While the state senate did not pass a budget Wednesday, senators did send to the House a bill approving five more casinos, including a Chicago casino owned by the city. If the House were to send that bill to Governor Rauner, would he sign it?
“There is a grand bargain being negotiated. I believe new revenues through the casino expansion are part of that grand bargain. I’ve said I’m open to whatever package can move the needle to a balanced budget and I’ve said I’m open to local control. So, the answer is if that came as part of a package, I could be supportive of that,” said Governor Rauner.
In other words, Rauner would also use a Chicago casino as leverage to get his pro-business changes.
