(CHICAGO) In the Springfield standoff over school aid, Mayor Rahm Emanuel is saying Governor Rauner is very much like President Donald Trump.
Trump’s Justice Dept is now vowing to investigate reverse discrimination in college admissions. Emanuel argues that’s like Rauner vetoing the school aid bill because both hurt minorities, explaining “They’re cut philosophically from the same cloth. There’s no difference between what Governor Rauner did and what President Trump and Attorney General Sessions are advocating. I think both are wrong and wrong-headed.
Emanuel says Rauner is acting out of anger and he predicted legislators will go around him to fund the schools. Note the mayor does not use the word “override.” That appears to be a hint Democrats may let the vetoed bill die, then pass a new one with new goodies for Republican school districts, a new bill designed to be veto-proof.
