(CHICAGO) Mayor Rahm Emanuel says it’s too soon to say a CTA fare increase is necessary.
CTA fares probably are going up, but Rahm’s going slow on the unpopular idea in order to get riders used to it.
“I’ve been very clear, they’ll be no service cuts because we expanded services last year”, said the Mayor. “While reforms have been made to the central office, I want them to look under there and see if there’s any savings. That means whatever else you have to do is smaller. No service cuts, look somewhere else first, then come back.”
Giving the Mayor some political cover to raise fares is RTA Chairman Kirk Dillard who all but ordered CTA to raise fares.
