(CHICAGO) In the competition among 20 cities to land the second Amazon headquarters, the Washington DC area where Jeff Bezos is building a mansion appears to be the bid to watch. But Governor Bruce Rauner’s deputy handling the state’s role in our bid, Leslie Munger, says she’s still optimistic.
Munger says she’s “cautiously optimistic” Amazon will choose a Chicago area location, but she says “we need to get out of our own way.”
“We have so much to offer here,” she adds, “We just need to get out of our own way in some cases and I think we’re working to do that.”
When asked what she meant by getting ‘out of our own way?’, Munger said, “We certainly have issues in our state. The budget issues are no secret, but when you look at all the issues that all the other sites have, the great news is that our issues are fixable.”
But some would say not fixable in a way ruling Democrats in the legislature would approve.
