In the campaign for mayor, Bill Cameron says Mayor Emanuel is ENDORSING Father Michael Pfleger’s controversial march down part of the Dan Ryan Expressway tomorrow to demand action against violence.

Emanuel is bucking his own police dept’s advice. Police brass said it was counterproductive to pull cops out of the very neighborhoods the protesters want protected, but the mayor says those protesters should be allowed to march on the Dan Ryan.

“Yes, because they’re going to be talking about anti-violence. I think there’s a proper way to raise that awareness. I don’t think there ever should have been a doubt about that effort. Think about this. They’re gonna raise an awareness that’s important if we’re also gonna make progress in making sure that our streets are safe.”

Emanuel also took the occasion to say voters should defeat Gov Rauner in Novenmber because he vetoed the first gun shop licensing bill.
