(CHICAGO) Long-time Latino leader, Chuy Garcia, has decided he won’t run again for mayor.

Chuy’s not running because so much of the union money is already going to Toni Preckwinkle and he says he’d rather keep his promise to primary voters and go to Washington as a congressman to fight Trump.

His decision is very good news for Preckwinkle and invites Susanna Mendoza to jump in, but Lori Lightfoot says it doesn’t change the basic question, “I think ultimately this race is gonna come down to whether or not people want the same old same old or whether they want something new and independent.”

Lightfoot, by the way, unveiled a new comprehensive public safety proposal that addresses violence as a public health crisis.
