California is getting ready to overhaul its sex education guidelines, and many parents aren’t happy about the changes.

The new guidelines encourage teachers to discuss topics like gender identity, LGBT relationships, and masturbation.

Hundreds of protesters gathered in the state capital of Sacramento on Wednesday, criticizing the new guidelines as ‘obscene’ and inappopropriate. But supporters say many young people, especially LGBT teens, often don’t get the information they need to make healthy choices about sex.
