A Friday PBS headline reads: “New abortion laws are too extreme for most Americans, poll shows.”

The recent PBS Newshour – Marist poll found 33% of respondents support “heartbeat bills,” while fewer than 25% support criminalizing doctors who perform illicit abortions.

While 63% support unrestricted abortion in cases of rape or incest, the poll also found that a majority of Americans do not support legalized abortion for any circumstance.

According to PBS this puts the American public squarely in the middle, politicians who purport far-right or far-left ideologies do so at their own risk.
