A New York couple are suing a California fertility clinic after a mix-up led the woman to give birth to another couple’s babies.

According to the lawsuit, the couple first knew something was up after a sonogram showed twin boys, when the embryos used weren’t supposed to be male. They were told the sonogram was wrong, but their suspicions were confirmed after giving birth in March to babies that were not of Asian descent.

The couple had to give up custody of the infants and are suing for medical malpractice and emotional distress. The couple allegedly paid more than $100,000 to the clinic for the procedure.
