US launches new Commission on Unalienable Rights

On Monday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the launch of the new Commission on Unalienable rights.

According to Sec. Pompeo, the group of academics, philosophers, activists, and bipartisan individuals will advise the State Department on foreign policy matters – within the framework of America’s founding principles, FOX News reports.

Pompeo called the move “an American commitment to uphold human rights.” A senior administration official described the commission as a pet project of Sec. Pompeo, who first imagined the idea as a West Point cadet.

The commission’s launch also comes at a time when some conservatives discussions have strayed from foundational rights to social and economic rights – both home and abroad.
