The White House announced Monday that it will end asylum protections for migrants gathering at the U.S./Mexico border.

According to the new rule, migrants who pass through another country before arriving at the border will not be eligible for asylum. Some exceptions exist, such as for victims of human trafficking.

Attorney General William Barr said the U.S. is “being completely overwhelmed” by hundreds of thousands of migrants gathering at the border.

Organizations such as the ACLU are already planning to challenge the new policy in court.
