Tips for Using less plastic when you travel
Bring reusable bags for souvenirs so you’re not winding up with a bunch of plastic bags (especially if you’re going to the UK and want to avoid having to get an embarrassing plastic bag)
Bring a reusable water bottle. Just make sure it’s empty when you go through security at the airport, but after you get through there are usually plenty of water refill stations at the airport so you don’t have to buy a water bottle or use a cup on the plane.
Bring your own travel mug. If you bring your own cup to Starbucks, you’ll not only save a cup, but they’ll give you a 10 cent discount.
Bring your own reusable steel or metal straws.
If you’re doing a roadtrip, bring a large jug or cooler of water and refillable bottle so you can avoid stopping for bottles along the way.
Also bring your own food in tupperware containers on a road trip so you aren’t wasting paper and wrapping stopping at a fast food place.
Bring your own toiletries in reusable bottles, if possible, so you can avoid using the hotel bottles which are a major waste. You can even purchase shampoo bars, which are basically bars of shampoo. This saves plastic and is easy to transport.
Try to avoid single-use or disposable items, like razors. Invest in a razor that will last, or at least one where you only have to change the blade.
Bamboo toothbrushes are also a great investment, with an estimated 3.6 billion plastic toothbrushes used every year.
