A US citizen, picked up by Customs and Border Protection officers and detained for three weeks, was released from custody on Tuesday.

Francisco Erwin Galicia was stopped at a checkpoint near the border in Texas while driving with friends. Despite showing his state ID, the agents claimed he was illegally in the country.

The 18-year-old was finally able to contact his family once transferred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Saturday says The Morning News .

Only after his lawyer, Claudia Galan, drove to the detention facility with more documents was Galicia let go. Galan believes her client was “absolutely” a victim of racial profiling.
