Hawaii may be in for a hurricane as a tropical storm headed in its direction is forecast to become one by late today.

The National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Erick is expected to grow into a hurricane and continue strengthening through Tuesday.

Forecasters, however, say it’s too early to know if Erick will directly threaten the state, but rough surf and stronger rip currents will affect the Big Island.
