Joseph Kennedy III, the grandson of late U.S. Senator Robert Kennedy, has confirmed that he is considering a run for Senate in Massachusetts to challenge Democratic incumbent Ed Markey.

Kennedy’s confirmation came with a Federal Election Commission file that was created on Monday called “Kennedy for Massachusetts”. Kennedy’s aides insist that this is simply “exploratory” and that he’s not 100% certain that he will run.

Markey’s camp hasn’t commented but he does have presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren on his side. No one can argue the power of the Kennedy surname in Washington, however.
