Two former University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign say they were sexually, physically, and emotionally abused by a former professor at the university.

One of the alleged vicims, Vina Sun, told CBS News she began a relationship with professor Gary Xu when she was 19 and he was 45. She says she was frequently beaten and raped and that Xu once tried to run her down with his car.

Sun says she reported Xu’s behavior to the university three times and “felt like they wanted to sweep it under the rug”. Xu was eventually given two years’ paid sabbatical and given a $10,000 bonus when he finally resigned.
