The 6 Tropical Storms Whirling at Once Have Set Record

The SIX tropical storms whirling around in the Atlantic and Pacific have tied a previous 1992 record as the most active tropical storms spinning at once.

The six storms, named Humberto, Kiko, Imelda, Jerry, Mario and Lorena, are “forming like roaches out there” according to the National Hurricane Center’s Eric Blake. September is the peak of hurricane season due to the annual peak of ocean temperatures. Winds that can break up storms in the ocean are usually at their lowest this time of year, too.
