Man Leads California Cops on 100 mph Chase in Stolen Police Car

In what’s being called one the “wildest chases” California’s Southland section has seen in years, police on Wednesday apprehended a suspect after he took off in a law enforcement vehicle.

The chase began late in the day after a man and woman reportedly carjacked a pickup truck. After officers began pursuing them, the man — who police say appeared to be under the influence — crashed the pickup. When officers left their vehicles to check on the pair, the man hopped into a California Highway Patrol cruiser and sped off, leaving the female suspect behind, police say. The resulting chase often exceeded 100 miles per hour, according to police.

Police finally apprehended the man in Rosamond after the stolen police car got stuck on a tall curb he attempted to drive over, according to reports. He faces a number of charges, including theft of a police vehicle, carjacking, assault, speeding, and reckless driving, among others. His female accomplice managed to escape and is still at large.
