New York City officials are expected to pass a bill outlawing the sale of foie gras in the city.

The delicacy is controversial with animal rights advocates, who say it’s produced by force-feeding ducks with a feeding tube to fatten up their livers. California passed a similar ban in 2012.

If passed, serving foie gras in the city could result in a $1,000 fine and up to a year behind bars.
