A snowboarder in Utah was killed after he accidentally triggered an avalanche near Salt Lake City.

Officials say the 45-year-old man was buried under three feet of snow in a ‘significant’ avalanche that covered a 180-by-600-foot area.

The man was trapped under the snow for up to 45 minutes before he was found and carried off the mountain but later died from his injuries. It’s the fifth avalanche-related death in Utah in 2019.
