The Babe Ruth Trade Happened 100 Years Ago

The most infamous trade in baseball history happened 100 years ago this week – the Red Sox selling Babe Ruth to the Yankees.

On Dec. 26th, 1919, the Red Sox sold the rights to star pitcher/outfielder Babe Ruth to the Yankees for $125,000 – which owner Harry Frazee used to stage a production of the musical “No, No, Nanette”.

Ruth, of course, went on to be the best player the game had ever seen, leading the league in home runs 12 times and leading the Yankees to four World Series titles.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox would suffer the “Curse of the Bambino”, and wouldn’t win another World Series until 85 years later.
