Here’s Facebook’s Final Word on Political Ads

Twitter banned political ads in October. Spotify, TikTok and Pinterest have also announced bans on political ads. However, the world’s largest social media network, Facebook, has decided that it’s still okay for politicians to make false claims in paid posts and will still allow politicians to use the network’s controversial audience targeting features.

Facebook bosses say they’re working to stop election meddling but their typical “hands-off” approach isn’t enough to political and digital experts. Even Facebook employees told the Washington Post that they have concerns over users’ privacy with Facebook’s approach to political ads.

Facebook officials say they’re putting the ad-viewing decision into the hands of the user; the company is rolling out a policy that will allow users to control how many political and social ads they want to see. Users will also be able to block businesses that post ads.
