Returning home from Thailand, a New Zealand woman and her two daughters were told by Thai Airlines check-in staff that they were “too big” to sit in their booked business class seats.
According to Huhana Iripa, a measuring tape was pulled out at one point, which left the family “utterly humiliated”. They were then moved to the back of the plane.
A meeting with representatives for the airline netted them with $435 in compensation – the difference between economy and business-class tickets.
The two younger women had traveled to Bangkok to undergo weight loss surgery.
