There isn’t much his fellow lawmakers can do, they say, other than ask him to resign.

That request was sent by GOP leadership, within Montana’s House, to fellow Republican Rep. Rodney Garcia, following comments Garcia made suggesting that the US Constitution allows for shooting or jailing socialists.

The AP reports Montana’s House Speaker, Greg Hertz, said Wednesday that further steps, including sanctions, likely would not be taken because they’d have to call a special session – which would cost taxpayers around $50,000.

Garcia said Monday that he’d only resign “if God asked me to.” That means it would take a recall effort by his constituents to remove him. However, there’s no indication of that happening.
