With the coronavirus raging across the planet, organizers for the Olympics were forced to postpone this summer’s games until next year.

But cases of COVID-19 and its death toll are still rising, leading some health experts to feel public gatherings will need to be put off for much longer.

However, it doesn’t look like pushing the events back further is a possibility, with International Olympic Committee and Tokyo officials admitting there’s no “Plan B” if the games can’t take place in 2021.

According to IOC President Thomas Bach in an interview with German newspaper Die Welt , both Japanese organizers and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said they “could not manage a postponement beyond next summer at the latest.”
