The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 33 elderly residents at a long-term care facility in Ontario.

The news was revealed Tuesday by administrators at Pickering’s Orchard Villa care home, where 122 people have tested positive for COVID-19. Of that number, 98 are residents and 24 are staff members, says acting executive director April Beckett. An additional 23 cases have been confirmed in Orchard Villa’s adjacent retirement home, Beckett says.

The outbreak has left the facility short-staffed, prompting the facility to ask the government for “assistance in finding staff and providing care for our residents,” Beckett says.
